A Starry Night

It seems like so long ago that Adam and Sarah got married and we had a rehearsal for it and all that stuff. Really it's only been little over a month! Finally I am getting around to sharing the fun of the evening before the wedding!

First, it wouldn't have been anywhere near as cool as it was without the incredible over-the-top efforts of my drama buddy Jennifer! She took the ideas and ran with them and cut out paper stars until she was seeing stars! She brought in our other friend Jen and her two daughters to help with everything from start to finish and they were amazing! Most of the photos in this collection were done by Colleen, a long time family friend; thank you for sharing and capturing the evening, Colleen!!

The inspiration for the night was Dr. Who. I knew little to nothing about this cult classic, beyond once knitting a very long and colorful scarf for my brother in law decades ago. Oh, and also that at least two of my kids had watched every episode, and that the show was as old as me. I watched the one episode that brought Dr. Who back in time to meet Van Gogh. That is where I established that our outdoor event under the stars could still be Dr. Who themed!

Jennifer set up this tent that her parents generously lent to us.

She strung up beautiful classic strings of lights,

and she created this one of a kind chandelier out of paper stars!

The tables were set with oodles of jars from all over Waterville and beyond! In each was a candle and they all sparkled to light the tables with a soft glow!

You'll notice bow ties throughout. That is part of Dr Who as well.
Evidently:

Here everyone is gathering in preparation for dinner!

The food was YUMMY! We had Hawaiian Chicken Kabobs, Bow Tie Pasta Salad,
Tossed Salad and Mint Iced Tea!

Fran read some very interesting cards out loud to the group. Erik and Hannah had created these after interviewing Adam and Sarah. I even learned things about them that I didn't know before!

The Maid of Honor, Merritt, and the Best Man, Jesse, each said a few words.

A cool dessert! Blue Jello with various mix-ins! It was a hit!

Micah was tasked with making a fire so we could have s'mores. He and Jeremy had a different way of accomplishing this, not one I'd ever seen before!

Even though it drizzled or rained at any given time the whole evening, it managed to let up enough for some die-hard marshmallow roasters to persevere!

At the end of the evening, we had favors for the guests to take home. Jammie Dodgers are an iconic cookie of Dr.Who. I baked the cookies and then Anna and Miranda assembled them into these neet little packages. Shortbread with raspberry filling? What's not to love?

As the days have passed since then, I've occasionally heard the song Starry Night by Chris August and thought how nice it is, and how cool it is that it talks about how the starry nights are God's design. Just like marriage; that is God's design too. I pray that both Adam and Sarah remember Who brought them together and Who is their rock.

Then the other day the piano tuner came to our house. Each time he comes, when he is done, he plays a song and then leaves a copy of the music with us. "Do you know Mama Cass from the Mamas and the Papas," he said. Of course I do! (Fran didn't! What's up with that?) Joe played Dream a Little Dream of Me. I peaked over his shoulder and saw the lyrics which started with the words, "Stars shining bright above you."

Happy Marriage, you two!
