What I've Learned Because I Homeschool

Jennifer has taught me not to be afraid of messing it up. Just start cutting and sewing...it'll all work out.  If not, start again!  She does amazing things with tablecloths, drapes and pillow shams.  A regular Fräulein Maria who couldn't bear to see the drapes in her room thrown away when they could be used to make play clothes!

Come to think of it, I remember when I used to go to the thrift store, buy a pair of men's dress pants, cut them apart, and make little suits for my boys.  It made so much sense.  I had to work at it, since I was also making my own patterns, and sometimes the design wasn't perfect, but it still worked and nobody knew!  These photos were taken in the spring of 1991.

Now, with Anna in a homeschool play, our budget it small and we are doing what we can with what we have.  So, out with the men's extra large silk shirt...probably from the 1990s, and in with Borachio's blouse!  I put the xl shirt on the table, put a large women's shirt on top of it, drew lines around it, pinned, and cut!

The stuff I cut off of the side seams became the cuff ruffle,
and the tail of the back of the shirt became the collar ruffle.

Voila!
It looks great with yesterday's red vest!  You MUST come and see!
