It's Saturday!

It's Saturday and it isn't a drill weekend, so all my guys are around.  Fran and Micah will be doing wiring in the kitchen.  We shopped all around and finally settled on ordering recessed lighting online.  So, they can't put the lights in today, nor can they put in the ceiling since the hardware goes in before the drywall.  The wiring should take a while, though.  The light switch for the kitchen lights will be moved into the kitchen as well.  As for the light for over my island counter, I'm thinking about a make-over plan.  The lights I like, naturally, are pretty pricey.  So, I'm working on an idea.

I have this light in my dining room.  (Yes, construction dust included.)

It's in the middle of the room, not over our table.  Never has been over our table.  That's a problem for another day.  The whole dining room is a project for another time!  Anyway, I saw a bunch of pendant lights down at the ReStore that have the exact same glass, but bigger, and just a single glass shade.  Maybe I could bring one of those home, and then paint the brass the burnished brass color of the knobs and hinges we've ordered here for our cabinets.
These are our knobs and hinges:

Oh, please ignore the square thingy under the knob.  It is not part of the knob, just an extra that we are not using that was included in the online catalog for illustrative purposes only.  Oh, and the sample hinges and knob that we bought at the store down the road looks just a little darker in person.  It's the same item number, so I hope they are the same!

Anyway, the further fun I would like to try is to paint the glass shade.  I was thinking red!  I picture sort of a stained glass effect, but all red.  If I like it, I will do the same thing to this dining room lamp some day...when I get to the dining room.

  1. Oooh, I would love to see the glass shade painted. Have you seen the antique glass shades that are "reverse" painted? (On the inside) Is that what you are referring to?

And I just discovered your response to my last comment. I really do need to try making crepes and yummy fillings.

  2. I've seen the reverse painting and they do cool things with it! I'm thinking a simple wash effect or something on the outside. Gonna have to play!

  3. Hi Di,
This story is unbelievable! Can't wait to show Den how everything is progressing so he'll see how things COULD go! The ceiling pictures are both fascinating and terrifying. Micah should be dubbed Knight of the Realm, Saint, or at least Man of the Year! Can't wait for the next step.
