Last week I talked about planning a gathering. I planned a menu and a decor. On Thursday I began cooking, and then all day Friday I cooked some more and decorated a little as well. Fran did the inviting.
I re-purposed our Christmas tree which was in the backyard awaiting city Christmas tree pick-up day, by sending Micah out to cut off some of the limbs. The snow had been coming down all day, so he shook them off, and I placed them on the heat registers while I cooked so they would dry off.
Wassail. It was a hit.
Crusty Dutch Oven Bread, and Brown Bread. The lighter crusty bread was from the second recipe I linked in my earlier post, and the darker one from the first link. I will probably use the recipe from the darker one again, since it rose much higher, and used less yeast. The Brown bread was a favorite!
Three soups. Black Bean, Corn Chowder, and Chili. Thanks, Dawn for the borrowed Crock Pot; I wish they hadn't called you into work so that you could have been here!
Chocolate Cake with Butter Cream icing, Caramel Popcorn, and Lemon Jelly Roll. Yum. The Jelly Roll I might have to work on. It wasn't an amazing dessert...the cake was very nice, though.
The top tablecloth here is from my Gram's linen closet. Unfortunately it has large tears in two quadrants, so here it is folded to conceal those. I'm pondering making lined valance curtains for my kitchen with the good parts of the fabric. No one sat at this table since only seven people came. We all grabbed chairs and made a lively crowd around the dining room table.
