Kitchen Fixes

Our kitchen should have a complete gutting and remodel, but in these times, who can afford such a luxury?  So, we're just fixing things up a bit.  By "we're" I mean I get ideas, Micah gets ideas, we throw them together and then he gets to work.  Until the cash for supplies I gave him runs out, then he waits until I have more to give him and things pick up again.  So, here is the latest in photos:

He decided to cover our temporary counter with floor tiles.  Works for me.  Coffee colored, so they look clean most of the time!  However, the fronts kept falling off.  Gravity.
So, he got some contact cement and stuck them up again and now they stay.

Since that worked so well, he started on this one.  The old red laminate had buckled and glue attempts made, but nothing worked.  He went to work.
This is how it looks now.  I think we're gonna do the rest of the counters with this.

Good thing today I found this RED dishpan at Christmas Tree Shop, and this RED vase at Salvation Army!  I still want RED in my kitchen...I just don't want the counters to be RED anymore!

Then Micah built this...

 ...to put here.

 Like this.

Then he decided to try changing our hinges like these...

...to hinges like these.  These are self closing which will be NICE. (See the old paint...)

Then I came home today FULLY intending to cook dinner but found this....

 ...and this...

...and this.  The brick is gone!  Nasty to clean, used to be red until I painted it, but even then it was hard to keep from getting grimy.  Gone!

So, I won't be doing any scrapbooking after all.  Micah is going to set up some tables in the now unoccupied attic so I can start sanding and painting the cabinet fronts.  I'm  ordering a whole set of those knew hinges and some cool knobs.  Cheaper online, you know.
